Why She Builds Power:
The Story Behind Our Rebrand

She build power in action

We’ve changed our name.
But we haven’t changed our purpose — we’ve expanded it.

For years, we were known as the Global Women’s Water Initiative — training women across Africa to design, build, and maintain clean-water systems for their communities. Thousands of families gained access to safe water because of that work. Yet, as we listened to the women leading those projects, a new truth emerged:

“Water alone isn’t enough. Real power begins when women can feed their families and finance their futures.”

That realization led us here — to She Builds Power.

When we first began, water access was the battlefront. But as each well went up, women began to ask new questions:

  • “Now that I have time, how do I grow food for my children?”

  • “How can I earn an income to send my daughter to school?”

These weren’t questions about charity — they were questions about agency.

She Builds Power was born from those voices. Our mission now connects three pillars of power — Water, Food, and Finance — because independence isn’t single-issue. It’s a system.

Our new name isn’t a cosmetic change.
It’s a challenge to systems that keep women dependent on aid.

  • “She” centers the woman — the leader, the innovator, the builder.

  • “Builds” is about action — not waiting for rescue, but creating change.

  • “Power” is the outcome — collective strength that transforms communities.

We’re still doing the hard work on the ground in Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania, but now our programs reach beyond wells. Women are managing savings circles, launching food co-ops, and leading enterprises that sustain entire villages.

Amina, one of our early graduates in Uganda, started as a water-technician trainee. After installing her community’s first safe-water system, she saw a new opportunity — to use her free time to plant a vegetable garden. Within a year, she turned that garden into a thriving micro-business employing other women.

Her story became our mirror: access to water gave Amina time, but access to capital gave her power.

Our supporters aren’t donors — they’re Power Builders.
They don’t just give; they co-create.

When you share a story, sign up for updates, or donate, you’re fueling an ecosystem where women lead — and where every drop, seed, and coin multiplies impact.

2025 marks a new chapter.
Through digital storytelling, on-the-ground training, and strategic partnerships, She Builds Power will train 100 new women leaders and reach 33 communities with sustainable water, food, and finance solutions.

We invite you to be part of this journey.
Because when she builds power, we all rise.
